The City of the Prophet
Al Madinah is the second holiest city in Islam after Makkah, about 420 kilometres north of it in western Saudi Arabia. It was the home of Prophet Muhammad and is his final resting place.
Madinah rose to prominence when the Prophet migrated there in 622 CE, and it served as the capital of the early Islamic state. Its markets and handicrafts keep Islamic cultural traditions alive, and visitors find a blend of Arabian hospitality, Islamic tradition and cultural heritage.
